Nanotube Desalination
Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have created a quarter size nanotube membrane made of special molecules of carbon atoms that are 50,000 times thinner than a human hair which lets water pass through while blocking larger molecules like salt. They hope the new process could cut the cost of desalination by 75%.
